AUDITION REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW STUDENTS

PREPARATORY ORCHESTRA

Violin/Viola

• Any two octave major scale
• A short solo demonstrating your musical and technical achievement, equivalent to completion of Suzuki Book 2
  This piece should demonstrate fluency in 1^st position, and some 3^rd position.
  Examples: Vivaldi, Seitz or comparable
• Sight reading

• Any two octave major scale (Bass-C or D major one octave scale)
• A short solo demonstrating your musical and technical achievement
  This piece should demonstrate fluency up to 4^th position (cello) or 3^rd position (bass).
  Examples: Cello-Suzuki Book 3 or greater; Bass-Simandl 30 Etudes
• Sight reading

• Any two octave major scale
• Chromatic scale to the fullest extent of your technique
• A short solo demonstrating your musical and technical achievement
  Example: Rubank Intermediate Book
• Sight Reading

• Any major scale
• Chromatic scale to the fullest extent of your technique
• A short solo demonstrating your musical and technical achievement
  Examples: Solos in the Rubank, Belwin or Standard of Excellence Intermediate Method Books
• Sight reading

• Snare Drum: Demonstrate closed roll and other basic rudiments
• Sight reading

• Scales and arpeggios, major and minor, in as many octaves as you are comfortable
• A short solo demonstrating your musical and technical achievement
• Sight reading of both piano and harp parts
