GENERAL AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
All new students must first audition for the conductor of the Preparatory Orchestra. Students potentially qualified for the senior group will be called back to audition for Mr. Derthick. This process also includes students currently in the String Orchestra.

CENTRAL VALLEY YOUTH SYMPHONY ASSOCIATION
If you are interested in joining the Central Valley Youth Symphony Association, now is the time. CVYSA now offers two levels with the full Symphony Orchestra and the addition of our Preparatory Orchestra. Students in the Central Valley Youth Symphony Association range in age through 22 and come from all over the Central Valley including Tracy, Manteca, Lodi, Valley Springs, Brentwood, Linden, Stockton and more. This season will include over 5 concerts with venues throughout the Central Valley.
This season we have more than 75 participants with a full range of musical talent.
In the past seasons CVYS has performed in concerts at the Faye Spanos Concert Hall at the University of the Pacific, the Hutchins Street Square Theater in Lodi, Tracy High School's Erma Baumgarten Theatre, a side-by-side concert with the Stockton Symphony and also traveled to New York for a competition held at Carnegie Hall.
Our Music Director, Mr. Tom Derthick, will begin his eighth season bringing us each year to new levels with exciting and challenging performances. Mr. Derthick is Bass Instructor at CSUS, UCD, and UOP, and is also Principal Bassist of the Sacramento Philharmonic. Mr. Shane Kalbach, our Strings conductor in his third season, brings to the group his string experience with a degree from California State University, Sacramento in Music Performance. Mr. Kalbach now teaches music through the Lincoln School District.
